Job summary

Collins Aerospace is seeking a Composite Builder for the second shift (3:00pm–11:00pm) to assemble, cure, and finish composite parts. You will cut materials, read instructions, operate autoclaves, monitor gauges, document data, and maintain traceability in ERP systems.

Safety training and teamwork are essential as you contribute to on-time production. Experience with hand tools, preventive maintenance, and ability to follow manufacturing instructions is expected.

Qualifications

  • Typically requires a HS Diploma or equivalent.
  • In the absence of a HS diploma or GED, 2 years of relevant experience is required.

Responsibilities

  • Arrange parts on carts to be placed into autoclaves.
  • Monitor, track and record data related to cures of parts.
  • Clean tools and parts after curing in the autoclave.
  • Monitor autoclave operations, gauges, and panel lights.
  • Report equipment malfunctions or resolve production problems.
  • Cut materials for work orders based on operational needs.
  • Read, calculate, measure and mix ingredients per instructions.
  • Complete documentation in timekeeping and ERP systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on tooling and machines.

As a Composite Builder, you will be responsible for the overall assembly, cutting materials, layup/build, cure, and final finish of the products to meet customer expectations. This position requires various manufacturing processes, including cutting, assembling, drilling, sanding, painting, soldering, and using any other tools needed to complete the final product. The ideal candidate for this position should be someone who works well with a team and collaborates with people from other departments. Builders will perform preventive maintenance on their tools and machines as required. This position will be responsible for the timely production and testing of quality parts as called out in the manufacturing instructions. All builders are expected to issue their parts used to the work orders to maintain traceability and claim their work accurately in the time keeping and ERP systems. This is for 2nd shift from 3:00pm-11:00pm, with voluntary and/or potential mandatory overtime.

What You Will Do:
  • Responsible for arranging parts on carts to be placed into autoclaves.
  • Monitor, track and record data related to the different cures of parts.
  • Clean tools and parts after curing in the autoclave.
  • Monitor autoclave operations, gauges, and panel lights to detect deviations from standards.
  • Confer with supervisors or other equipment operators to report equipment malfunctions or to resolve production problems.
  • Cut materials for work orders based off of operational needs.
  • Adjust controls to regulate equipment according to specifications.
  • Record gauge readings, test results, and shift production in logbooks.
  • Transport materials and products to and from work areas, manually or using carts, hand trucks, hoists, and forklift.
  • Fill out necessary paperwork in order to maintain part traceability and accountability.
  • Ability to implement procedures set in manufacturing instructions to assemble parts.
  • Ability to read, calculate, measure and mix ingredients, document and follow written work instructions and procedures.
  • Receive precut pieces of composite material and perform repetitive actions on multiple pieces using hand tools.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on tooling and machines.
  • Complete all documents completely and accurately all the computerized tracking systems.
  • Performs work in a safe manner and completes all required safety training.
  • Drive plant performance through safety, quality, delivery, and cost metrics.
  • Keep work area clean and organized to facilitate process flow improvements.
  • Participates in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
Qualification You Must Have:
  • Typically requires a HS Diploma or equivalent.
  • In the absence of a HS diploma or GED, 2 years of relevant experience is required.
Qualifications We Prefer:
  • Experience reading blueprints, rulers, and specification sheets
  • Understand military time and be able to calculate time hours
  • Willing to be trained to wear a respirator and work with chemicals/paints as needed.
  • Willing to become certified to operate forklifts and trained in cranes and hoists
  • Able to properly document materials used and understand the importance of material traceability
