Job summary

Barrington Stage Co seeks an experienced music director and composer to collaborate with students in an afterschool setting. You will teach vocal parts and harmonies, accompany rehearsals with live piano, and guide campers through performances.

You will compose original music with student input, arrange music to fit voices, and lead activities, with a flexible, creative mindset to support the show students want to create.

Qualifications

• Experience directing music in an educational setting.
• Piano expertise with experience accompanying young singers.
• Creative and flexible mindset to support student-led shows.
• Ability to compose underscoring and arrange music for student voices.
• Strong sight-reading and fluency in music notation.

JOB OVERVIEW

Collaborate to create original music for a final show with students in an afterschool setting.

The music director and composer will teach vocal parts and harmonies and accompany students for all rehearsals, classes, and performances. Other duties as camp counselor will be assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

• Music direct the culminating show
• Teach all musical solos and harmonies to the campers and provide live piano accompaniment for the classes and shows
• Composer original music with student input and collaboration
• lead activities and games
• Develop responsive plans to assist students with performance skills

QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience with music direction in an educational setting
• Demonstrated piano expertise and experience accompanying young singers
• Flexible and creative mindset to support the show that students want to create
• Ability to compose underscoring moments in the show and arrange music to suit and support student voices
• Complete fluency in all music notation with great sight-reading skills
• Facility composing original music
• Experience with underscoring and devising
