Job summary

Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control in Orlando, FL seeks a Component Engineer to act as the technical authority for electrical parts, guiding qualification, documentation, and supplier oversight for flight‑critical hardware.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or related STEM field; Master’s preferred.
• 3+ years in Component Engineering or related areas such as circuit card manufacturing, SMT, thermal profiling, and failure analysis.

Responsibilities

• Select, evaluate, qualify, test, and perform failure analysis on electrical, electronic, electromechanical, and electro-optical components.
• Prepare and maintain Component Source Control Drawings (SCDs) and review subcontractor drawings and NPARS during PMPCB meetings.
• Review component test reports, authorize qualified sources, and provide guidance to suppliers and internal teams.

Standard Job Description

You will be the Component Engineer for the Hardware Engineering team at Lockheed Martin Missilesand Fire Control (MFC). Our team delivers precision engagement aerospace and defense systems, designing, building and fielding the electrical hardware that powers missiles, sensors and other mission critical subsystems for the UnitedStates and allied militaries.

What You Will Be Doing

As the Component Engineer you will act as the technical authority for EEEE parts, driving their qualification, documentation, and supplier oversight while partnering with cross‑functional groups to guarantee reliable, flight‑qualified hardware.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Selecting, evaluating, qualifying, testing, and performing failure analysis on electrical, electronic, electromechanical, and electro‑optical components.
• Planning, directing, reviewing, and coordinating all project documentation to satisfy customer contracts and LockheedMartin standards.
• Preparing and maintaining Component Source Control Drawings (SCDs).
• Evaluating vendors, reviewing component test reports, and recommending qualified sources.
• Generating, reviewing, and approving Non‑Standard Part Approval Requests (NSPARs) during Parts, Materials, and Process Control Board (PMPCB) meetings.
• Reviewing and approving engineering drawings and SCDs for subcontractor‑supplied components.
• Leading or supporting PMP issue‑resolution activities and driving corrective actions to closure.
• Assisting and leading failure‑analysis efforts within the EEEE domain.
• Maintaining configuration control and traceability of all component data throughout the product lifecycle.
• Providing technical guidance to suppliers and internal teams to ensure seamless integration of approved components.

This position is in Orlando, FL. Discover more about our Orlando, Florida location. MUST BE A U.S. CITIZEN - This position is located at a facility that requires special access. The selected candidate must be able to obtain a secret clearance.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related STEM field from an accredited university; Master’s degree preferred
• Minimum 3 years of professional experience in Component Engineering or component-related experience such as circuit card manufacturing, SMT process, thermal profiling of critical components, troubleshooting, cable assembly, and understanding of component commodity and package types including moisture-sensitive parts
• Demonstrated knowledge of electrical component parameters and packaging
• Proficient with component engineering obsolescence tools (Silicon Expert, IHS BOM Intelligence)
• Proficient with product lifecycle tools such as Windchill PLM
• Knowledge of high-reliability military component standards and specifications (e.g., MIL-STD-883, MIL-STD-38534, MIL-PRF-55342, MIL-PRF-55681)
• Experience with software tools like Siemens Xpedition EDM Library Cockpit and PTC Windchill
• Proficient with MS Office applications, especially Excel
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work in a team environment
• Ability to travel to customer and supplier locations
• Must be a US Citizen; must possess or be able to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance

Desired Skills

• Experience in electrical component manufacturing process and physical property analysis
• Experience in Component Engineering with knowledge of electronic components and devices
• Electrical or Electronic Engineering experience (such as components or digital/analog design)
• Material Science Engineer degree with electrical component experience, or an Electrical Engineer degree with component engineering experience
• Experience with missile platforms
• Knowledge of Parts Management Plan
• MS-level technical degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering would be a plus
• Experience with CSAM (C-Mode Scanning Acoustic Microscopy) evaluation
• Experience troubleshooting electrical test failures
• Experience in Root Cause / Corrective Action
• Experience in Plastic Encapsulated Device qualification testing
• Experience with DPA (Destructive Physical Analysis) techniques
• Knowledge of Military & Automotive Electronics Quality Standards
• Active DoD Secret or Top Secret Clearance

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $70500.00 - $130900.00

PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
