About the role.

The Senior Compliance Specialist - Underwriting & Product Compliance helps ensure PURE insurance contracts, policy forms, endorsements, notices, and related product and underwriting practices comply with applicable state insurance laws and regulatory requirements. The role’s primary responsibility is to monitor, research, and interpret regulatory changes; determine how those changes apply to existing forms and contract language; and translate requirements into practical, sustainable business solutions. This individual will also own and manage an inventory of forms-related compliance and regulatory matters. Working across Product Development, Underwriting, Product Management, Legal, Technology, and other business areas, the Compliance Specialist will help evaluate issues, develop appropriate remediation and corrective actions, and drive work through resolution. Strong candidates will be intellectually curious, analytical, and interested in understanding not only what a regulatory requirement says, but how and why it applies to the business. The right candidate does not need to arrive with expertise in every aspect of compliance but should bring a strong foundation in property and casualty insurance, sound judgment, an aptitude for regulatory research and problem solving, and the ability to work independently while influencing outcomes across teams without direct authority.

What you’ll do.

Regulatory research and forms impact assessment

• Research and interpret state insurance statutes, regulations, regulatory bulletins, and other authoritative requirements affecting personal lines insurance.
• Monitor regulatory developments and assess their applicability and impact, with an initial focus on policy forms, endorsements, notices, and insurance contract language and the potential to expand into related rate, rule, underwriting, workflow, or system requirements.
• Independently analyze complex or unfamiliar compliance questions by identifying applicable regulatory authority, evaluating relevant facts, distinguishing regulatory requirements from business decisions, and documenting a clear, supportable conclusion.
• Review notices, communications, and related practices to identify compliance concerns and recommend practical approaches that satisfy applicable requirements.

Forms defect inventory and remediation

• Own and maintain a centralized inventory of forms-related compliance matters, regulatory projects, and remediation activities, including status, priority, ownership, dependencies, decisions, and resolution.
• Assess reported issues to understand regulatory impact, scope, urgency, and potential corrective action needs; elevate significant concerns appropriately.
• Lead or coordinate cross-functional remediation efforts from issue identification through implementation and closure, ensuring actions are clearly defined, documented, and tracked.
• Evaluate contributing factors and recommend corrective actions that address the immediate issue, reduce the likelihood of recurrence, and strengthen related controls or processes.
• Validate that agreed-upon remediation has been completed and maintain evidence supporting final resolution.

Cross-functional implementation and advisory support

• Partner with Product Development, Underwriting, Product Management, Legal, Technology, and other stakeholders to evaluate regulatory impacts, develop compliant solutions, and implement required changes.
• Build credibility and influence decisions across teams and levels of the organization without a direct reporting relationship, balancing regulatory requirements with practical business considerations.
• Communicate complex regulatory information clearly and practically to different audiences, including the rationale, risk, recommended path forward, and required action.
• Maintain clear documentation of research, decisions, implementation activities, corrective actions, and completed work.
• Proactively identify opportunities to improve compliance practices, issue management, documentation, controls, and processes, and contribute recommendations for more effective and sustainable solutions.
• Support regulatory inquiries, examinations, audits, or other compliance assignments when the work relates to the role’s subject‑matter responsibilities.

What we’re looking for.

• 2-4 years of relevant property and casualty insurance experience. Experience in personal lines underwriting, product, compliance, forms, regulatory affairs, claims, or another analytical insurance role is preferred.
• A strong foundational understanding of personal lines insurance and an interest in developing deeper expertise in policy forms,, product, underwriting, and regulatory compliance.
• Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills, including the ability to examine facts, identify relevant questions, assess risk, and work methodically toward a supportable conclusion.
• Intellectual curiosity and a genuine interest in investigating how and why requirements apply rather than relying solely on established processes or prior practice.
• Strong research aptitude and the ability to locate, read, interpret, and apply statutes, regulations, regulatory guidance, and other authoritative sources.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to translate complex information into clear, practical guidance for different audiences.
• Sound judgment and comfort working through ambiguity or issues where the answer may not be immediate or obvious.

The base salary for this role can range from $70,000 to $85,000 based on a full-time work schedule. An individual’s ultimate compensation will vary depending on job-related skills and experience, geographic location, alignment with market data, and equity among other team members with comparable experience.
