MKD Electric is seeking a Compliance & Risk Manager to lead enterprise-wide compliance and risk programs across our industrial and commercial operations. The role requires a minimum of seven years in corporate compliance or related functions, with strong contract review experience and a background in electrical contracting or industrial

The Compliance & Risk Manager is responsible for leading and strengthening the compliance and risk management function across the Industria enterprise and its affiliated entities. Operating as an enterprise shared-services resource, this position supports multiple businesses with expertise in electrical contracting, systems integration and infrastructure services for the industrial and commercial industries.

This position serves as a key business partner to executive leadership, Operations, Finance, Safety, Human Resources, Training, Business Development, and external legal counsel to identify, assess, and mitigate legal, contractual, regulatory, and operational risk across the organization.

The Manager will provide leadership and oversight to the Compliance team and will be responsible for developing consistent enterprise-wide compliance standards while recognizing and managing requirements that may differ by legal entity, jurisdiction, customer, or line of business.

Key Responsibilities
Enterprise Compliance Leadership
  • Lead the compliance and risk management function across the enterprise and affiliated entities.
  • Develop and maintain scalable enterprise-wide compliance standards, controls, systems, documentation, and escalation protocols while addressing entity-specific requirements.
  • Serve as a primary compliance resource and escalation point for leadership, partnering with business and department leaders to identify and address regulatory, contractual, licensing, and operational risks.
  • Provide leadership with visibility into significant compliance risks, deficiencies, expirations, corrective actions, and other matters requiring attention.
  • Support compliance integration and due diligence associated with acquisitions, business expansion, new jurisdictions, customers, entities, and service offerings.
Compliance & Risk Management
  • Monitor applicable legal, regulatory, contractual, customer, and industry requirements and communicate material changes and business impacts to appropriate leaders.
  • Develop and maintain compliance policies, procedures, standards, internal controls, and supporting documentation.
  • Evaluate business practices and controls for compliance and effectiveness, identifying gaps, potential liabilities, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Perform or oversee compliance audits and reviews and manage corrective action plans resulting from identified deficiencies or violations.
  • Partner with department leaders to address compliance requirements and provide practical guidance, training, and support.
  • Promote accountability, ethical conduct, compliance awareness, and proactive risk management throughout the organization.
Contracts & Legal Compliance
  • Perform initial review and redlining of commercial and operational agreements, including NDAs, MSAs, subcontract, supplier/vendor and customer agreements, purchase terms, Terms & Conditions, and related agreements.
  • Identify legal, financial, insurance, indemnification, operational, and other contractual risks and apply established standards and approval thresholds.
  • Ensure agreements are entered into by the appropriate legal entity and properly reviewed, approved, executed, and maintained.
  • Coordinate contract negotiations and revisions with internal stakeholders and external parties, escalating elevated-risk or legal matters to executive leadership or external counsel as appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain contract review standards, approval matrices, playbooks, templates, standard positions, and escalation protocols.
Contractor Licensing & Regulatory Registrations
  • Lead enterprise-wide contractor, professional, occupational, and regulatory licensing and registration requirements across multiple state and local jurisdictions.
  • Oversee applications, renewals, qualifying-party requirements, electrical and occupational licenses, apprentice registrations, corporate registrations, compliance bonds, and related filings, ensuring requirements are maintained under the appropriate legal entity and completed timely.
  • Research licensing and regulatory requirements for new jurisdictions and business opportunities and resolve issues that could affect an entity's authorization or ability to perform work.
  • Maintain appropriate tracking, documentation, controls, and escalation procedures to prevent licensing, registration, and credential lapses.
Vendor, Client & Subcontractor Compliance
  • Oversee enterprise compliance processes for customer, vendor, supplier, and subcontractor onboarding, including prequalification’s, W-9s, insurance documentation, safety requirements, licensing/training verification, questionnaires, qualification applications, and third-party compliance platforms.
  • Establish standardized workflows, entity-specific controls, review standards, approval requirements, and escalation procedures for third-party compliance.
  • Review compliance documentation for deficiencies, contractual concerns, or business risk and coordinate resolution with Operations, Accounting, Safety, Business Development, management, and legal counsel as appropriate.
Team Leadership & Department Management
  • Lead the Compliance team, providing supervision, coaching, development, workload prioritization, and performance management.
  • Establish clear expectations and promote ownership, accountability, accuracy, professional development, and timely follow-through.
Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Legal Studies, Business Administration, Risk Management, Construction Management, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in corporate compliance, contracts, legal operations, risk management, or a related function.
  • Demonstrated experience reviewing, interpreting, and redlining commercial contracts and related legal documents.
  • Strong knowledge of compliance and risk-management principles, internal controls, policies, audit practices, and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and evaluate legal, contractual, financial, regulatory, and operational risks and translate requirements into practical business solutions.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, project-management, and decision-making capabilities with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to explain complex requirements and effectively partner with leaders and operational teams.
Preferred
  • Experience supporting multi-entity and/or multi-jurisdictional organizations.
  • Experience within electrical or commercial construction, industrial services, engineering, energy, utilities, manufacturing, or similar environments.
  • Legal background and/or significant experience with construction contracts, corporate law, regulatory compliance, or legal operations.
  • Experience developing scalable compliance programs and controls and working with external legal counsel and/or supervising compliance professionals.

The salary pay range for this position is $130,000-$160,000 annually. Please note that the compensation range reflects the base pay only and does not include benefits, or bonuses this role may be eligible to receive.
