Job summary

Western University of Health Sciences seeks a Compliance Manager to support the University’s Compliance Program and coordinate policy development, mandatory training, auditing, and reporting to ensure adherence to federal, state, accreditation, and internal regulatory requirements.

The role partners with multiple departments serving as a compliance resource and facilitator to support university compliance programs and promote humanism across campus.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, Public Policy, Legal Studies, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in compliance, audit, policy management, risk management, or a related regulatory function.
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications (including SharePoint, Teams, Excel) and related tools.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in implementing and managing comprehensive compliance programs aligned with university policies, state and federal laws, and accreditation standards.
  • Develop and maintain workflows and systems to streamline compliance processes and cross-departmental communication.
  • Maintain internal controls and reporting mechanisms to track compliance issues and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Develop and maintain policies, procedures, programs, internal controls, and preventative measures with stakeholders.
  • Develop, implement, evaluate, and oversee compliance education and training programs.
  • Conduct periodic risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Monitor changes in federal, state, and local regulations affecting higher education compliance and communicate updates.

Job Summary

The Compliance Manager is responsible for supporting the implementation and ongoing management of the University’s Compliance Program. This position coordinates policy development, mandatory training compliance, auditing and monitoring activities, issue tracking, and reporting to ensure institutional adherence to federal, state, accreditation, and internal regulatory requirements. The Compliance Manager partners with various departments serving as a compliance resource and facilitator to support university compliance programs.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Individuals must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to perform the essential functions of the assigned classification, with or without reasonable accommodation(s), using some other combination of skills and abilities. Necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities are as follows:

Knowledge of:
  • Experience in higher education, healthcare, or public sector compliance.
  • Familiarity with OIG , DOJ , OCR , FERPA , HIPAA , Title IX, or other relevant regulatory frameworks.
Skills:
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to design, document, and continuously improve compliance workflows and business processes; comfortable managing multiple deadlines and coordinating activities across departments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly and proactively with the AVP /Chief Compliance Officer, providing regular status updates, escalating issues promptly, and presenting findings in a concise and accessible manner to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft 365 ecosystem, including SharePoint (site design, document libraries, permissions), Microsoft Teams (channels, workflows, integrations), and other tools for dashboards and data reporting.
Ability to:
  • Demonstrate a commitment to working in an organization that values and promotes humanism.
  • Demonstrate strong initiative and a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset; able to identify compliance gaps, propose improvements, and take action without waiting to be directed, while keeping the AVP /Chief Compliance Officer appropriately informed throughout.
  • Coordinate and share compliance data across multiple departments, ensuring activities are well-documented, transparent, and readily accessible to institutional stakeholders and leadership at any time.
  • Bring creative ideas and thoughtful recommendations to the AVP ; comfortable voicing perspectives, flagging concerns, and contributing actively to the strategic direction of the compliance program.
Required Qualifications
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, Public Policy, Legal Studies, or a related field.
Experience or Training:
  • 3-5 years of experience in compliance, audit, policy management, risk management, or a related regulatory function.
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications (including SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, Excel)
Special Requirements, Licenses, and Certifications:
  • Travel may be required for various off-site meetings, training, conferences, and/or events in support of the overall objective of the position.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree preferred or any combination of education and experience that provides the required skills and ability.
  • Professional certification such as CHC , CHPC , CCEP , or similar (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the implementation and management of a comprehensive compliance programs aligned with university policies, state and federal laws, and accreditation standards.
  • This includes the development and management of workflows and systems to streamline compliance processes, improve cross-departmental communication, and ensure efficient coordination of compliance activities across the institution.
  • Maintain internal controls and reporting mechanisms to track compliance-related issues and provide recommendations for continuous improvement. Includes the development and maintenance of compliance dashboards and data reports to enable real-time visibility into program status, open issues, and cross-departmental activities.
  • Develop and maintain policies, procedures, programs, internal controls, and preventative measures with compliance stakeholders.
  • Develop, implement, evaluate, and oversee compliance education and training programs.
  • Conducts periodic risk assessments to identify potential compliance vulnerabilities. Develops mitigation strategies and action plans to address identified risks.
  • Monitor and interpret changes in federal, state, and local regulations impacting higher education compliance, such as Title IX, Clery Act, FERPA , ADA , and HIPAA .
  • Collaborates with stakeholders to communicate and address compliance changes.
