Job summary

United States Digital Space LLC is seeking a Compliance Engineer to join our Hardware team in San Francisco. In this role you will be the primary driver for global regulatory certifications, ensuring our wearable technology meets safety and compliance standards from early design through market launch.

You will drive design-for-compliance, oversee testing with labs, manage OEM/ODM relationships, and navigate FCC, ISED, EU/CE rules to sustain market access.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in Product Compliance in consumer electronics.
  • Experience working with 3rd party labs and OEM/ODM compliance relationships.
  • Deep understanding of hardware product development lifecycle and certification timelines.

Responsibilities

  • Drive Design for Compliance initiatives across product development lifecycle.
  • Oversee in-house and third-party compliance testing and validation.
  • Manage timelines with labs and agencies to complete global certifications for NPI.

We are looking for a Compliance Engineer to join our Hardware team. In this role, you will be the primary driver for global regulatory certifications, ensuring our wearable technology meets the highest standards of safety and compliance from early design through market launch.

What you will do:
  • Drive "Design for Compliance" initiatives from start to finish, collaborating cross-functionally with Hardware and Firmware Engineering teams to integrate regulatory requirements into the product development lifecycle.
  • Conduct and oversee in-house and third-party compliance testing, validation efforts, and deep-dive analysis of complex regulatory issues.
  • Manage relationships and project timelines with external regulatory test labs and agencies to drive global certifications to completion for New Product Introductions (NPI).
  • Navigate global product safety and regulatory standards (FCC, ISED, EU, etc.) to ensure seamless market access and sustaining compliance for existing products.
  • Partner closely with OEM and ODM partners to ensure manufacturing processes align with the company’s rigorous compliance and quality standards.
  • Independently establish structure and clarity within the compliance function, proactively identifying critical path dependencies that could impact launch timelines.
Requirements We would love to consider you for this role if you have:
  • 5+ years of experience in Product Compliance specifically within the consumer electronics industry.
  • Strong technical knowledge of global regulatory standards including FCC, ISED, and EU/CE requirements.
  • Proven experience working directly with 3rd party labs and managing OEM/ODM compliance relationships.
  • Deep understanding of the hardware product development lifecycle (PDL) and its impact on certification timelines.
  • Exceptional ability to prioritize competing business needs and communicate technical requirements to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Provide Certification updates and maintain the internal certification database.
  • Prepare and maintain test samples for engineering validation and testing.
  • A proactive, self-starter mindset with the ability to establish structure in a fast-paced environment.

This is a hybrid role out of our San Francisco office.

the company takes a market-based approach to pay, which may vary depending on your location. US locations are categorized into tiers based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. While most offers will be closer to the starting range, successful candidates' pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, internal peer equity, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

  • Region 1 (SF): $172,000 - $203,000
