Job summary

IDEX Consulting is seeking a Compliance Attorney to work within the Office of General Counsel of a leading international law firm in New York. The role focuses on risk management, client and vendor compliance, and regulatory matters, with broad exposure across engagement risk and business development regulation.

The successful candidate will review engagement letters, Due Diligence, RFPs, Codes of Conduct, and NDAs while negotiating provisions to reduce risk.

Qualifications

• Three+ years of experience in a large law firm or equivalent compliance function.
• New York-qualified attorney with solid knowledge of professional responsibility rules.
• Excellent judgment and ability to manage multiple live workstreams under deadline pressure.

Responsibilities

Job description

Our client is a top-tier international law firm with a globally recognised practice across the most complex corporate and financial matters. As part of continued investment in its Office of General Counsel, they are looking to appoint a Compliance Attorney to work closely with the Associate and Assistant General Counsel, supporting the firm's risk management infrastructure.

This is a rare seat inside a GC's office at a firm of this calibre - broad exposure across engagement risk, client compliance, business development regulation, vendor contracting and lateral conflicts, without the billable-hour treadmill of practice.

You will review and monitor client engagement letters and Outside Counsel Guidelines, maintaining the firm's compliance repository and liaising with partners on responses. You'll also review client due diligence and information security questionnaires, Codes of Conduct, RFP terms and NDAs, flagging and negotiating provisions that create risk for the firm. Alongside this, you will support the Business Development function's compliance with professional responsibility rules on attorney advertising, social media and client marketing restrictions, including the development of training materials, and partner with the Vendor Management Office on business services contract review - advising on indemnities, limitations of liability and warranties. You will also run conflicts analysis on lateral attorney hires, draft waiver request correspondence and implement ethical walls as required.

We're keen to speak with New York-qualified lawyers with a minimum of three years' experience in a large law firm; time spent in a General Counsel's office or compliance function is a strong plus. You'll bring sound working knowledge of the Rules of Professional Responsibility, impeccable judgment on when to escalat, and the organisational stamina to hold several live workstreams under deadline pressure. Genuine flexibility matters here too - this seat carries evening and weekend on-call coverage given the firm's global footprint.

Compensation sits between $175,000 and $225,000 base, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
