The Occupational Health and Safety Bureau (OHSB) Compliance and Enforcement Section (CES) Chief oversees operations of the C&E section of the OHSB including health and safety inspections and discrimination investigations. The incumbent collaborates with industry, government agencies, and the public, providing referrals to non-enforcement programs to promote safe and healthy employment practices statewide. The CES Chief integrates enforcement and investigation strategies into strategic and annual performance plans and directs process improvement in furtherance of the bureau's mission.
Bachelor's degree in occupational safety and health, industrial hygiene, engineering, physical science, natural science, environmental science, social science, criminology, or closely related field and nine (9) years of related work experience. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling thirteen (13) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment.
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. This position requires in-state travel and out-of-state travel with associated office work. Possible exposure to hazardous chemicals, noise, extreme weather conditions and safety hazards.
This position is not covered by a collective bargaining unit.
