Job summary

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) in Chicago seeks a Complex Claims Director to independently handle a portfolio of high-severity claims from Financial Institutions and Commercial teams, focusing on FI, E&O, D&O, and Fiduciary. This role requires interaction with senior management, underwriters, actuaries, brokers, insureds, and defense counsel.

The position involves mediations, settlements, and travel to client meetings, with a JD and 3–8+ years of claims or legal experience.

Qualifications

• JD required.
• Typically 3-8+ years of relevant claims or legal experience.
• Excellent interpersonal communications and negotiation skills.
• Ability to thrive in a highly collaborative team environment.

Responsibilities

• Independently evaluate information on coverage, liability, and damages to determine exposure for insured and company.
• Attend mediations of complex claims and negotiate settlements.
• Provide outstanding service to insureds, brokers, and underwriters in handling and adjudication of claims.
• Analyze and draft coverage letters and communicate positions verbally and in writing.
• Draft reports, set reserves within authority, and make claim recommendations.
• Travel to conferences, mediations, and client meetings as necessary.
