The California Department of Industrial Relations, Division of Occupational Safety and Health, Oakland office, is seeking a Complaint and Report Intake Manager who will lead a multi-disciplinary team handling health and safety complaints and triage incidents.

Under the general direction of the Statewide Centralized Complaint and Report Intake Unit (CCRIU) Manager with the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR), Division of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH), Enforcement Branch, the Complaint and Report Intake Manager has full supervisory and oversight responsibility of a local (and in some cases, a Field office) DIR-DOSH Complaint and Report Intake Compliance Office without detailed supervision or review. The incumbent leads the activities, plans, schedules, directs, assigns, evaluates, and reviews the work of a multi-disciplinary staff composed of office technicians, analysts, safety engineering technicians, safety engineers and industrial hygienists.
The incumbent serves as a subject matter expert on identifying and eliminating or controlling both health and safety occupational hazards; ensures all incoming emergency and non-emergency calls, emails, faxes, letters and written correspondences of health and/or safety work‑related accidents, fatalities, hazardous/unsafe work condition/practice complaints/referrals, general inquiries and etc. are accurately logged, triaged, and processed within mandated timelines and department/division guidelines, policies/procedures, and directives.

Primarily the work will be in an office environment working indoors 8 hours or more per day, stationary position at a desk, in a chair, and in front of a computer screen, for extended periods of time; using a multi‑line telephone console or a cordless telephone with headset; stationary for extended periods, during meetings, trainings, or workplace inspections; perform repetitive operate motion, simple grasping, fine position manipulation, maneuver or transport above and below shoulder level; moving and in a stationary position for extended periods of time, including but not limited to, on slopes, uneven, rough, wet, and/or slippery surfaces/terrain; position self, move, twist to retrieve items from ground level. Some work may be at a field site that has the potential for exposures to safety and health hazardous substances, and may involve, working outdoors in a wide range of weather conditions (e.g. rain, strong winds, heat, and cold); move and transport up to 50 pounds of equipment or work related materials; ascending/descending/balancing stairs, ladders, stoops, slopes; dressing appropriately for working in the field, including proper use of personal protective equipment (safety boots, protective suits, hearing protection, respiratory protection, safety eyewear, hard hat, cooling vests, gloves, etc.); have functional detection; traveling via private, State vehicle, or public transportation (i.e. automobile, airplane, etc.) including overnight travel may be required.
