Job summary

The Sisters of Mercy of the Americas in Nashville, TN is seeking a part-time Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA/STNA) to join a compassionate care team. This on-site role covers Saturdays and Sundays with 12-hour shifts and includes per-diem coverage for call-offs and holidays.

Under the Director of Nursing, you will assist with daily living activities, monitor health, and support safe, respectful care for Sisters in a home-like environment.

Qualifications

• Current CNA or STNA certification is required.
• Current Basic Life Support certification or training.
• Experience or education related to geriatrics or elder care.
• Knowledge of aging and care needs of older adults.
• Ability to provide compassionate, person-centered care.
• Ability to recognize and communicate changes in condition promptly.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to set priorities.
• Self-motivated, dependable, with attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a care team.
• Basic computer skills for required documentation.
• Maintain confidentiality and respect privacy.
• Flexibility to rotate shifts, weekends, holidays, and on-call.

Responsibilities

• Answer call lights promptly and compassionately.
• Assist with toileting and incontinence care.
• Help with bathing, dressing, grooming, and basic hygiene.
• Provide level of assistance based on each Sister's needs.
• Encourage independence while offering support as needed.
• Obtain and document vital signs and body measurements.
• Monitor health changes and report to nursing staff.
• Participate in shift-change reporting for continuity of care.
• Support skin integrity with positioning and care.
• Assist with meals and escort to dining area.
• Promote well-being and engage Sisters in activities.
• Assist with safe transfers, positioning, and ambulation.
• Accompany ambulatory Sisters outside the residence when appropriate.
• Use proper body mechanics and equipment to prevent injury.
• Maintain personal laundry, linens, and clothing as needed.
• Report safety hazards and defective equipment promptly.
• Respond calmly during urgent situations and emergencies.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and comfortable living environment.
• Communicate with Sisters, families, visitors, and staff professionally.
• Work rotating schedules, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts.
