Location: Nashville, TN

Schedule: Saturday and Sunday position every other weekend. 12hr shifts 7am-7pm.

Salary Range: 17.50-23 per hour

Telecommute Eligibility: This is an essential, on-site position and is not eligible for telecommuting.

Position Summary

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA/STNA) supports the nursing team in providing compassionate, direct care to the Sisters. Under the direction of the Director of Nursing and other healthcare providers, this position assists with activities of daily living, personal care, mobility, meals, clinical observations, and other day-to-day needs.

The CNA/STNA helps ensure that each Sister receives high-quality, person-centered care in an environment that promotes comfort, safety, dignity, independence, and freedom of choice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Answer Sisters’ call lights promptly, courteously, and compassionately.
  • Assist with toileting and incontinence care, including the use of bedpans, bedside commodes, and bathrooms.
  • Assist Sisters with bathing, dressing, grooming, oral hygiene, nail, hair, foot, and skin care.
  • Provide the appropriate level of assistance based on each Sister’s individual needs, ranging from minimal support to total assistance.
  • Encourage Sisters to complete activities they can safely perform while assisting with tasks they can no longer complete independently.
  • Obtain and document vital signs, monthly weights, symptoms, progress, and other assigned health information.
  • Observe Sisters for changes in physical condition, mental status, behavior, or response to care and immediately report concerns to the appropriate nursing staff.
  • Participate in shift-change reporting to maintain clear communication and continuity of care.
  • Support skin integrity through repositioning, incontinence care, moisturizing, and other medically appropriate preventive measures.
  • Assist with meals according to dietary requirements, including escorting Sisters to and from the dining area, serving food, providing mealtime assistance, and cleaning tables.
  • Promote the intellectual, emotional, physical, spiritual, and social well-being of the Sisters through conversation, active listening, encouragement, and participation in activities.
  • Assist with safe transfers, positioning, ambulation, and transportation within the residence or to another care setting.
  • Accompany ambulatory Sisters outside the residence when appropriate.
  • Use proper body mechanics, lifting equipment, and transfer techniques to prevent injury.
  • Maintain personal laundry, linens, and clothing, including ironing or minor mending when needed.
  • Protect each Sister’s personal belongings and promptly report missing items.
  • Follow all safety and infection-control procedures, including proper handwashing, use of personal protective equipment, and disposal of soiled materials.
  • Identify and report safety hazards, defective equipment, accidents, incidents, and environmental concerns.
  • Respond calmly and resourcefully during urgent and emergency situations.
  • Help maintain a safe, clean, orderly, and comfortable living environment.
  • Communicate with Sisters, families, visitors, co-workers, and leadership in a courteous, tactful, and professional manner.
  • Work rotating schedules, including weekends and holidays, and accept additional or on-call shifts as needed.
  • Follow all organizational policies, care procedures, safety requirements, and confidentiality standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Current and valid Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) certification.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification or training.
  • Experience or education related to geriatrics, gerontology, healthcare, or other special populations.
  • Knowledge of aging and the care needs of older adults.
  • Ability to provide compassionate, respectful, and person-centered care.
  • Ability to recognize and promptly communicate changes in a Sister’s physical or mental condition.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to establish priorities.
  • Sound judgment, self-motivation, dependability, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with employees, healthcare providers, Sisters, families, and other contacts.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively as part of a care team.
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to complete required documentation accurately.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and respect each Sister’s privacy, dignity, preferences, and personal belongings.
  • Flexibility to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, additional shifts, and on-call assignments as needed.
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, including frequently lifting, pushing, or pulling up to 75 pounds and safely using care and mobility equipment.
