Job summary

Petco seeks a Veterinary Assistant in Massachusetts to deliver excellent medical care and friendly client service within a Vetco Total Care hospital. You will support doctors in exams, surgeries, dentistry and anesthesia, while maintaining accurate medical records and patient welfare.

Preferred candidates have at least 1 year of veterinary experience, strong communication skills, and a compassionate, team-oriented attitude.

Qualifications

• Preferred to have at least 1-year previous experience working in veterinary practice.
• Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be compassionate and sympathetic, and be able to maintain a professional attitude and demeanor during emotional and stressful situations.
• Must have telephone and computer skills.
• Must be a team player willing to learn new techniques and treatments, offer creative ideas, and accept change.

Responsibilities

• Greet clients and patients arriving for appointments, escort to exam room, record vital signs and EMR.
• Assist doctors with routine and emergency appointments, surgery, dentistry and euthanasia under supervision.
• Perform patient restraint, collect samples, handle medications and maintain EMR.
• Schedule appointments, educate clients, relay test results and update records.
• Assist in preparing patients for procedures and monitor anesthesia under supervision.
• Provide in-hospital treatments, IV fluids, and daily care as directed by vet team.
• Train new staff members and share knowledge as required.
• Keep hospital clean and orderly according to schedule.
