Job summary

Dix Hills Animal Hospital is seeking a full-time Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians in a general practice setting. You’ll assist with examinations, treatments, and surgeries while delivering compassionate care to patients and owners.

The role requires flexibility, strong communication, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment; weekend/holiday availability is a plus, and we provide ongoing training and VSOP stock ownership eligibility.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a veterinary hospital or similar setting is preferred, but training is provided.
• Knowledge of basic animal care and medical terminology.
• Ability to lift and restrain animals safely and effectively.
• Must be able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds or heavier.
• Flexibility to work weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians with examinations, treatments, and surgical procedures.
• Provide compassionate care and support to patients and their owners.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of hospital and equipment.
• Handle and restrain animals safely and effectively.
• Participate in the care of hospitalized patients.
• Adhere to hospital core values, policies and procedures at all times.
• Work collaboratively with other team members to ensure the highest standard of patient care.
