Job summary

Hendersonville Veterinary Hospital in Brookdale, NC, is seeking an enthusiastic Veterinary Assistant. You will assist veterinarians and technicians with patient care, monitor hospitalized pets, and help with routine in-house lab work and client education.

The role emphasizes teamwork, safety, and compassionate service. Responsibilities include assisting with outpatient exams, surgery prep, sample collection, radiographs, and medication administration.

Qualifications

• Weekend work availability as required
• Minimum 1 year veterinary experience
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds; assist with heavier lifts with help
• Basic math and dosage calculations
• Basic computer skills (MS Office)

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians in veterinary medicine and surgery as needed
• Take histories, vital signs, and weights during outpatient exams; educate clients
• Prepare patients for surgery and monitor vital signs during procedures
• Obtain samples and perform in-hospital laboratory testing; prepare specimens for outside labs
• Take, develop, and maintain radiographs following safety procedures
• Handle and restrain animals during exams; provide compassionate care
• Administer and monitor medications, anesthesia, vaccines, and treatments as directed
• Maintain clean exam, treatment, and lab areas; restock supplies; assist team members
• Communicate with veterinarians and staff regarding client discussions and patient plans
• Perform other duties as assigned
