Job summary

Petco Animal Supplies, Inc. is seeking a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine to provide exceptional clinical care in our Vetco Total Care hospital. You will diagnose, treat, and manage companion animal patients, work with clients, and collaborate with a team of professionals in a busy practice.

The role emphasizes anesthesia and routine surgeries, strong communication, and compassionate care while adhering to state regulations and Petco SOPs.

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from an AVMA-accredited school.
  • Active veterinary license in the state or ability to obtain by start date.
  • Current DEA license.
  • Current Controlled Substance License, if applicable.
  • USDA Category I Accreditation or completion within two months of hire date.
  • Preferred: experience with anesthesia and routine surgeries (canine/feline).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Compassionate, professional demeanor and teamwork.
  • Telephone and computer skills.
  • Willingness to learn new techniques and adapt to change.

Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent patient care by performing exams, diagnosing and treating diseases, and preventive care.
  • Provide excellence in client communication and service.
  • Develop treatment plans and coordinate with referral hospitals for continuity of care.
  • Document observations, exam findings, diagnostics, treatments in medical records.
  • Participate in rounds and disseminate knowledge to staff and hospital partners.
  • Ensure continuity of care and follow-up diagnostic testing as per guidelines.
  • Perform routine and complex surgical and dental procedures including spays/neuters and dentals.
