The RT will perform assessments, administer therapies, manage equipment, and educate elders, families, and staff to promote health, safety, and comfort. License and CPR certification are required, with preference for candidates who bring experience in skilled nursing settings.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
• Georgia Respiratory Care Professional License in good standing.
• CPR Certification required.

Responsibilities

• Performs comprehensive respiratory assessments (breath sounds, oxygenation, ventilation, work of breathing).
• Observes, evaluates, documents, and reports changes in an elder’s respiratory status.
• Administers prescribed respiratory therapies including nebulizers, oxygen, inhaled meds, chest physiotherapy, and suctioning.
• Provides tracheostomy care and airway management per protocol.
• Sets up, manages, and monitors respiratory equipment (oxygen systems, CPAP/BiPAP, humidification).
• Ensures accurate and timely documentation of respiratory interventions and education.
• Responds to respiratory emergencies and initiates interventions within scope.
• Participates in admissions, discharges, transfers; updates care plans.
• Checks and maintains respiratory equipment; ensures cleanliness and infection prevention compliance.
• Educates elders, families, and staff on respiratory conditions, device use, oxygen safety, and disease self-management.
• Collaborates with physicians, nurses, rehab, social services, and dietitians to develop care plans.
• Supports nursing staff by reinforcing respiratory competencies and recognizing changes in condition.
• Performs daily respiratory rounds to support elder well-being.
• Demonstrates positive customer service and professionalism.
