Job summary

Sunshine Retirement Living in Aurora, CO is seeking a Medication Technician to administer medications to residents and support daily care. This hourly, non-exempt role emphasizes person-centered care and safety across memory care and assisted living.

The position requires a HS diploma or equivalent, state certification as needed, and a willingness to train in dementia care techniques. Strong communication and teamwork are essential to excellence in resident services.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Six months of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Appropriate certification, as required by the state.
  • Previous experience in senior living preferred.
  • Attention to detail to administer and accurately record the administration of medications for residents as prescribed by the physician in accordance with Sunshine Retirement Living policies and procedures and state/federal regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate politely and effectively (in English), both verbally and in writing, with residents and staff.
  • Meet state-related requirements (if applicable to position).
  • Ability to work in a team setting and be a positive team player.
  • Maintain a positive, respectful, and professional approach with coworkers and residents.
  • Possess excellent customer and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work under time constraints with little supervision and meet deadlines.
  • Training or willingness to train in dementia care practices, including redirection, validation, and behavioral support techniques.
  • Satisfactorily pass Sunshine’s and state-regulated criminal record clearance, health screening and TB clearance (if applicable).

Responsibilities

  • Provide residents with medication administration and treatment assistance according to healthcare provider’s orders.
  • Monitor health, safety, and well-being of the residents. Promptly report any changes in resident’s physical condition and/or behavior to Health Services Director or Health Services Coordinator.
  • Accurately maintain resident records regarding medication distribution, leisure activities, incidents, and observations.
  • Properly store medications and equipment and keep the medication room clean and orderly.
  • Ensure prescription label and storage procedures meet state standards.
  • Properly follow shift-change procedures and documentation.
  • Assist with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, and eating.
  • Support residents with memory loss by using patience, empathy, and specialized communication techniques.
  • Encourage and/or remind residents to participate in activities; promote purposeful engagement that matches residents’ cognitive abilities and personal preferences.
  • Assist in keeping the environment safe and happy for residents.
  • Implement elopement-prevention and other safety measures specific to memory care residents.
  • Immediately respond to resident emergencies; provide first aid assistance; debrief and document incidents following company procedures.
  • Accurately document medication administration, care provided, and observations in electronic health records per company policy.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
