Job summary

NYU Langone Health in Manhasset is seeking an Ambulatory Surgery Patient Support Assistant for Preop/PACU to join our hospital team. You will assist with daily living activities, monitor vital signs, and help prepare patients for procedures in a fast-paced ambulatory setting.

Responsibilities include supporting surgical teams, maintaining sterile environments, and communicating compassionately with patients and families while upholding safety and infection prevention standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Graduate of Certified Nursing Attendant Program; CNA certification required.
• BLS/CPR certification (AHA) required upon entry to the position.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist with ADLs including bathing, grooming, toileting, feeding, and mobility support.
• Monitor vital signs (BP, pulse, temp, O2) and report abnormalities to RN.
• Conduct patient rounds to address comfort, safety, and personal needs; respond to call lights.
• Assist with admissions, transfers, and discharges; escort patients.
• Support basic clinical tasks such as specimen collection and oxygen setup.
• Prepare operating/procedural rooms with equipment and supplies.
• Demonstrate sterile technique and infection prevention practices.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
• Complete delegated tasks and assist with patient transport and unit operations.
• Participate in meetings and quality improvement initiatives.
