Job summary

Lake Charles Memorial Health System is seeking a General Lab Phlebotomist to collect clinical samples for testing. Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• 2 years of experience in a like or similar position is preferred.
• Familiarity with medical terminology preferred.
• Advanced computer skills.
• Ability to communicate well with patients, family, peers and medical personnel.
• Able to read and understand graphs and performance improvement data sheets.

Responsibilities

• Use and maintain mobile devices and Spectralink phones according to policy.
• Utilizes departmental communication platforms.
• Meets blood culture contamination rate of < 1.0% where applicable.
• Utilizes proper hand washing.
• Assists clerks with receiving specimens and answering calls.
• Met established turnaround times for STAT, In AM, Timed, and routine orders.
• Practice methods of preventing infection during venipuncture/skin puncture.
• Utilizes laboratory computer systems, collection lists, kiosk systems, and pending logs.
• Ensure proper collection for specimen integrity.
• Performs blood collection procedures using skin puncture and venipuncture.
