Job summary

BMC Berkeley Medical Center is seeking a Phlebotomist to collect blood and non-blood specimens, including urine and swabs, while maintaining chain of custody where required. The role requires patient-centered collection across age groups and precise labeling of specimens.

Responsibilities include operating basic lab equipment, clerical tasks, and clear communication with patients and staff. A high school diploma or equivalent is required; phlebotomy certification is preferred and 6 months

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Phlebotomy Certification (CPT) preferred.
• Six months phlebotomy experience required.

Responsibilities

• Consistently draws blood competently and expediently with minimal patient discomfort across age groups.
• Properly labels all specimens in the presence of the patient.
• Operate basic laboratory equipment (centrifuges, computer systems, labeling printers, scanners, etc.).
• Communicate effectively with patients, clients, and staff.
• Perform clerical duties such as filing, report distribution, processing, and faxing.
• If applicable, collect drug screens using Chain of Custody Process.
