Job summary

Dewis Centre for Independent Living seeks a Patient Personal Assistant to support a 23-year-old man in Ferndale. You will help him access the community using public transport and assist with some domestic tasks, promoting independence and safety. The role is 8 hours per week in two 4‑hour shifts, with flexible days.

A trial period of six months applies. The post includes holiday pay, payslip on 4‑week cycles, and requires an enhanced DBS check and NI number. Experience with autism is desirable.

Qualifications

• Experience with autism is desirable.
• Patient, clear and encouraging communication.
• Reliable and punctual.
• Willingness to use public transport with the service user.

Responsibilities

• Assist the service user to access the community by public transport.
• Engage in activities (cinema, bowling, arcade, pub quizzes, gym, swimming).
• Provide domestic support (cooking and cleaning) to aid independence.
• Be patient, friendly and encouraging, building a supportive relationship.
• Be reliable and punctual and able to use public transport safely.
• Occasionally accompany the service user to Cardiff and other activities.
