Job summary

Stony Brook Southampton Hospital is seeking a Patient Transporter for per diem coverage within the Environmental Health and Safety team. The role requires lifting up to 75 lbs, strong customer service, and coordination with Nursing and Environmental Services to move patients and equipment safely.

Qualifications

• High School or GED diploma.
• Current BLS provider certification from the American Heart Association within 30 days of hire.
• CPR certification.
• Excellent verbal/communication, listening and customer service skills.
• Ability to service/quality-focused to meet a wide range of needs.
• Must be able to prioritize tasks and work at a fast pace.
• Professional appearance and demeanor.
• Team environment readiness.
• Must be able to speak, read, and write English.
• Heavy physical effort; lift/carry/push/pull up to 75 lbs.
• Prolonged standing and walking; bending and kneeling.

Responsibilities

• Maintain patient safety and privacy during travel times.
• Transport patients throughout the hospital using stretchers or wheelchairs.
• Respond promptly to transport requests and meet delivery goals; assist with patient transfers.
• Clean and prepare stretchers, beds, and wheelchairs per procedures; assist with patient movement.
• Transport specimens and equipment and collect dirty items per procedures.
• Participate in orientation and training; adhere to hospital policies.
• Assist with patient discharges to support patient flow.
• Assist with Environmental Services duties as needed.
• Monitor for unsafe conditions and initiate repairs requests as needed.
• Follow National Patient Safety Goals and proper patient identifiers.
