Job summary

UTMB Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician I for the Medicine Unit in Galveston. The role involves providing basic technical assistance and patient care, under supervision, across various tasks including vital signs, specimen collection, venipuncture, and ECGs.

Requirements include completing a recognized nursing/medical program or relevant experience, plus Basic Life Support (BLS). The position supports patient safety, privacy, and aseptic procedures in a hospital setting.

Qualifications

• Completion of one of the listed programs OR two years of direct patient care experience.
• Certified MA, PCT, or CNA at time of hire.
• Enrolled in a recognized School of Nursing and has completed the first semester of education containing clinical concepts and health assessment.

Responsibilities

• Provide basic technical assistance and supportive patient care as directed by the plan of care.
• Obtain vital signs, height/weight, intake and output, and collect specimens.
• Draw blood by venipuncture and perform 12-lead ECG.
• Perform POCT and assist with patient activities and safety as assigned by the charge nurse.
