Job summary

Northwestern Medicine seeks a Patient Care Technician to assist the Professional Registered Nurse in direct and indirect patient care. You will operate under RN supervision within a busy unit, performing routine hands-on care, monitoring vitals, and supporting clinical workflows.

The role emphasizes compassionate patient interaction, adherence to safety protocols, and effective teamwork in a hospital setting. CNA or nursing education and CPR certification are preferred.

Qualifications

• CNA certification or enrollment in nursing school.
• CPR recognition by the American Heart Association (BLS for Healthcare Providers).
• High school diploma required; some college or nursing education preferred.
• Experience in a health care setting preferred; ability to relate to patients and staff.

Responsibilities

• Assist with admission, transfer, and discharge processes.
• Take and record temperature, pulse, respirations, weight, height, and blood pressure.
• Measure and record intake and output, monitor neonates as needed.
• Perform phlebotomy and obtain EKGs as directed by RN.
• Provide newborn care, assist with feeds and glucose checks.
• Support direct patient care and administrative tasks for the unit.
• Respond to call lights and ensure patient safety and comfort.

Education

High school diploma

One year of college or nursing education

CNA Certification or enrollment in nursing school
