Job summary

MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center, part of MercyOne Central Iowa and Trinity Health, is seeking a Patient Care Tech to support clinical staff with direct patient care and diagnostic duties. The role covers routine monitoring, assisting RN/LPN, and preparing patients for procedures in a fast-paced hospital environment.

The position requires BLS certification within six weeks, compliance with safety protocols, and the ability to work 12-hour day shifts with rotating weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

• Must be 16 years of age.
• Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter – Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training within three (3) months of hire.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certified within six (6) weeks of hire).

Responsibilities

• Delivers assigned patient care and treatment as delegated by an RN or LPN.
• Performs activities including personal hygiene, bathing, ambulation, transporting, ROM, dressing, feeding, and drainage care.
• Responds to patient calls and anticipates patient needs.
• Ensures patient safety through safe handling techniques, rounds, and equipment maintenance.
• Calculates intake/output and measures vital signs.
• Performs bedside blood glucose testing.
• Documents in health records per policy.
• Initiates emergency support measures when needed.
• Prepares patients and rooms for procedures, admissions, and transfers.
• Discharges patients from the system.
