Job summary

WVU Medicine Golisano Children's seeks a Nursing Assistant to support direct patient care under RN supervision. You will assist with ADLs, vital signs, and basic tests, and ensure a safe, family-centered environment.

Responsibilities include patient transport, glucose monitoring (where allowed), phlebotomy, and assisting with exams and rehabilitation activities. Certification in BLS/HeartSaver is required within 30 days.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Obtain certification in Basic Life Support or HeartSaver First Aid within 30 days of hire date.
• Prior patient care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in direct patient care by providing basic physical care to promote patient comfort as directed by the Registered Nurse.
• Assist all assigned patients with activities of daily living and bed care in a timely manner.
• Safely transports patients to tests, procedures, and discharge.
• Transports specimens and items throughout the facility.
• Perform tests such as glucose monitoring and urine/stool testing; maintain QC logs.
• Performs routine phlebotomy services (excluding line draws).
• Record vital signs, temperatures, pulses, respirations, BP, intake/output, weight, and girths per policy.
• Provide respiratory support by setting up equipment for oxygen administration.
• Encourage Incentive Spirometer use per Respiratory Care procedure.
• Report patient concerns/changes to RN immediately.
• Prepare patients for examinations and procedures; assist with examinations.
• Assist with basic rehab/Physical Therapy activities.
• Communicate nutrition issues to RN.
• Provide total care within scope of practice when sitter or visual supervision is assigned.
• Maintain a clean, safe environment to help prevent infections.
