Job summary

Duke Regional Hospital, part of Duke Health, is seeking a Nursing Assistant to join our general medicine unit in Durham. The Nursing Assistant will support RNs/LPNs in direct patient care, perform basic care tasks, and help ensure a safe and comfortable patient environment on a 40-bed unit.

The role requires adherence to infection control, patient dignity, and teamwork, with responsibilities including routine activities, vital signs, and transportation of patients.

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of procedures and techniques for routine and special treatments.
• Sanitation, personal hygiene and basic health and safety precautions.
• Ability to lift or move patients over 35 pounds with assistance.
• Ability to document and communicate information using computer or paper records.
• Pre-employment Physical Capacity Testing may be required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients, equipment and supplies for procedures and provide manual assistance.
• Record patient data for medical records and inform RN/LPN of changes.
• Assist with feeding, bathing, hair care, changing clothing, mobility and comfort needs.
• Turn and position patients; monitor vital signs and assist with admissions/discharges.
