Job summary

1199 SEIU Employment and Job Placement Division in Nassau and Suffolk Counties is seeking Nursing Attendants to join hospital care teams. You will support RN colleagues, help with ADLs, and ensure patient comfort and safety within a busy clinical environment.

The role involves assisting with meals, personal care, mobility, and basic procedures under supervision. A high school diploma and nurse assistant training or equivalent experience are required.

Qualifications

• Needs effective communication and ability to follow written and/or oral instructions
• Ability to work in diversified settings and lift/position patients as required

Responsibilities

• Functions as a co-worker to the nurse and a key member of the nursing care team
• Organizes patient care assignment and sets priorities
• Alerts RN co-worker to changes in patient status
• Documents patient care and patient status changes on the chart forms
• Communicates routine information to RN during shift
• Assists RN with ADL needs and meals
• Feeds or assists with meals and provides nourishment
• Bathes patients and assists with bathing and oral hygiene
• Assists with toilets and mobility, including ROM and ambulation
• Grooms the patient and participates in plan of care development
• Maintains patient care units in neat condition and prepares rooms for new admissions
• Performs procedures and simple treatments under RN supervision
• Transports patients and reports equipment issues
• Maintains non-patient areas and cleans equipment
• Participates in nursing education requirements
