Job summary

Duke Raleigh Hospital, a campus of Duke University Health System, seeks a Nursing Assistant to support patient care in the inpatient Medical Oncology unit. You will assist nurses, prepare patients and supplies, and document in the EMR, ensuring comfort and safety for adults on a high-acuity unit.

Shift schedule includes 7pm-7am with 3-12 hour shifts per week. Requires Nurse Aide I certification and High School diploma. Equal opportunity employer and team-oriented environment.

Qualifications

• Completion of a Level I - Nurse Aide education program approved by the North Carolina Board of Nursing or successful completion of the NC-approved Nurse Aide I competency test.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients, equipment and supplies for specific procedures and provide manual assistance as required.
• Obtain and record patient data for medical records noting and informing RN/LPN of information collected.
• Administer treatment and personal care procedures to patients including feeding, bathing, hair care, changing clothing, nail care, bed-making, assisting with ambulation, enemas, skin care, and bowel and bladder elimination; provide such additional care as required to meet the personal needs and comfort of assigned patients.
• Take and record vital signs, record I&O, and apply ice bags. Note and report any changes in patient's condition.
• Assist with admission, discharge, and transportation of patients; follow standard precautions and use PPE.
• Perform fingersticks for blood glucose testing with appropriate training and document.
• Navigate EMR, acknowledge orders, verify printout and input verified orders to request diets, treatments, nursing services, equipment and tests.
• Assemble and maintain patient charts from admission through discharge and upload documents into the EMR.
