Job summary

HCA Florida West Tampa Hospital is seeking a Mental Health Technician to support the patient care team in a behavioral health setting. You will perform essential patient care tasks under RN supervision and help maintain a safe, therapeutic environment for patients.

This role focuses on crisis intervention, daily living activities, and collaboration with the patient care team to ensure high-quality care. Training and certifications are required or encouraged as part of onboarding.

Qualifications

• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) within 30 days of start date.
• Nonviolent Crisis Intervention within 30 days of start date.
• Fingerprinting may be required for employment.
• Certified Behavioral Health Technician preferred; PCT training within 6 months of hire.
• High School Diploma or GED preferred.

Responsibilities

• Obtain vital signs, height/weight, intake/output, and calorie counts.
• Establish rapport with patients and provide a therapeutic environment.
• Monitor patient safety; escort and, if needed, restrain patients.
• Perform bedside glucose testing and collect lab samples as needed.
• Assist RN with admission data collection and discharge preparations.
• Coordinate/group activities and encourage patient interaction.
