Job summary

Ochsner Health in New Orleans is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide individualized patient care under supervision, in person, electronically and by phone. The role supports the provider and ensures a smooth patient visit, including appointment prep and documentation.

The ideal candidate will hold a High School Diploma or GED, have Medical Assistant Certification, and BLS. Preferred: formal MA training program, strong computer skills, and excellent communication with diverse patients.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Completion of a formal medical assistant training program is preferred.
• Medical Assistant Certification is required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is required.
• Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.

Responsibilities

• Supports the patient and provider throughout the patient visit.
• Ensures the patient and provider are prepared for the visit.
• Answers patient questions prior to leaving and prepares room for next appointment.
• Provides excellent patient service through effective communication in person and by phone.
• Completes appropriate documentation including patient registration if necessary.
• Maintains clinical knowledge, technical skills, training and credentials through ongoing development.
• Complies with the Department of Transportation Workplace Drug and Alcohol Testing Programs if in occupational health.
• Adapts communication style to the patient population and maintains privacy.
