Job summary

Brown University Health seeks a Medical Assistant I to join the clinical team and support daily operations in the physician practice. You will maintain a professional demeanor with patients and customers in person, on the phone, or by email.

The role involves rooming patients, taking vital signs, documenting in the EMR, assisting with procedures, and supporting care coordination workflows. Work hours are M-F 8:00am–5:00pm with 8 daily hours; you will handle vaccine administration and specimen

Qualifications

• Strong customer service excellence expected.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.
• Experience with EMR strongly preferred. (Athena preferred but not required)
• Experience with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and Outlook preferred.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Education from approved medical assistant program or equivalent.
• One to three years as a medical assistant preferred.

Responsibilities

• Works closely with providers to assist in delivering world class care to patients.
• Provides a high level of customer service to all new and existing patients of the practice.
• Rooms patient and prepares the patient for the provider visit.
• Takes vital signs as necessary and enters data into EMR.
• Records patient history, chief complaint, pharmacy information, prescription list, etc into EMR.
• Obtains required consents and completes required forms for visits.
• Performs in office testing and EKGs as needed and performs controls on tests.
• Assists provider with in-office medical procedures.
• Properly labels specimens and adheres to policy.
• Administers vaccines and medications as ordered by provider.
• Follows workflows for TCM/CCM/RPM if active.
• Schedules patient appointments and testing as ordered.
