Cedar Valley Hospice in Waterloo, IA is seeking a Spiritual Counselor to provide compassionate spiritual care to patients, families, and caregivers within an interdisciplinary team. The role emphasizes comfort, dignity, and quality of life at end of life, with on-call rotation and local travel as needed.

The ideal candidate will hold a bachelor's degree in theology or counseling, be knowledgeable about various faith traditions, and demonstrate cultural sensitivity.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in theology or counseling preferred.
• Knowledge of spiritual care, in-person counseling and various faith traditions required.
• Ability to provide spiritual support while respecting diverse cultures, beliefs, values, and traditions.
• Experience working in a healthcare or interdisciplinary team environment preferred.
• Current Iowa driver's license, reliable transportation, and ability to travel throughout the CVH service area required.

Responsibilities

• Assess the spiritual needs of patients and families and develop interventions and visit frequencies based on individual needs, preferences, and beliefs.
• Provide spiritual counseling, support, and compassionate presence to patients, families, and caregivers experiencing serious illness, end-of-life concerns, grief, and loss.
• Assist with patient admissions as requested.
• May assist families with end-of-life rituals, funerals, celebrations of life, etc as requested by the family and approved by the Clinical Services Manager.
• Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to support individualized patient and family care.
• Participates in spiritual care on-call rotation and responds to patient, family, and staff needs as necessary.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to move up to 25 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
