Job summary

Assisting Hands Home Care – Merrillville is seeking dependable caregivers to provide non-medical, one‑on‑one care to clients in Gary, IN and nearby communities. This hourly, non-exempt position offers flexible scheduling, paid orientation, ongoing training, and 24/7 on‑call support from a local office team.

Responsibilities include personal care, mobility assistance, companionship, light housekeeping, and safety monitoring.

Qualifications

• Two years of paid caregiving experience in a home care setting or similar role.
• Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and auto insurance.
• Current TB test and CPR certification.
• Comfortable using a smartphone for scheduling and documentation.
• Dependable attendance and clear communication.

Responsibilities

• Assist with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, eating, and other personal care needs.
• Support safe walking and transfers according to the care plan and training.
• Assist clients with walkers, wheelchairs, and mobility equipment.
• Provide companionship, conversation, and social engagement.
• Prepare meals and help with light housekeeping, laundry, and organization.
• Offer medication reminders; this role does not include medication administration.
• Observe and report changes in client condition, appearance, or behavior.
• Use our mobile app to clock in/out, communicate with the office, and document care.
• Follow infection prevention practices, safety procedures, and agency policies.
• Maintain client dignity, confidentiality, and professional conduct.
