Job summary

Parkview Elementary School in Indiana seeks a dedicated Self Contained Instructional Assistant to support students with diverse learning needs in a self-contained classroom. This full-time role focuses on fostering an inclusive, structured learning environment.

You will assist with IEPs, provide academic support in reading, writing and math, monitor progress, and collaborate with teachers, specialists, and families to adapt instructional materials and strategies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; an associate’s degree or higher in education or a related field is preferred.
• Experience working with children, particularly those with special needs, in an educational setting.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, parents, and staff.
• Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping students succeed.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and follow direction from the classroom teacher.
• Basic proficiency in technology and willingness to learn new educational tools and software.
• Knowledge of special education practices, behavior management techniques, and instructional strategies is a plus.
• CPR and First Aid certification is preferred or must be obtained within the first six months of employment.
• Background check clearance as required by school district policies.

Responsibilities

• Assist the classroom teacher in implementing IEPs for students with special needs.
• Provide direct support to students in reading, writing, and math tasks.
• Facilitate small group instruction and one-on-one tutoring sessions.
• Monitor and document student progress, behavior, and participation.
• Collaborate with teachers, specialists, and parents to adapt materials and strategies.
• Maintain a positive, structured classroom environment to encourage engagement.
• Support development and implementation of behavioral intervention plans as needed.
• Assist with student transitions during lunch, recess, and other activities.
• Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development.
• Uphold school policies to ensure a safe and respectful learning environment.
