Job summary

Inspire of McClelland in Wappingers Falls, NY seeks a dependable cook to support residents' nutrition by preparing meals, snacks and beverages per individual plans. Under supervision of the dietary supervisor, you will prepare and serve meals, maintain sanitation, and assist with tray line and special diet requirements.

The role requires prior cooking experience, strong cleanliness, and the ability to read instructions and document outcomes.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 18 years of age; high school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Previous cooking experience required
• High degree of personal cleanliness and hygiene required; health status suitable for food service required
• Ability to read and understand work assignments, as well as report verbally and provide written documentation as necessary
• Respect for residents’ privacy and rights; display of genuine concern and empathy for the elderly
• Able to perform tasks while upholding high standards of quality, cleanliness and kindness
• Qualities of responsibility, diplomacy and ability to work well with fellow staff members
• Physical endurance for frequent activity
• Be able to occasionally lift boxes weighing 40 pounds

Responsibilities

• Adhere to all foodservice standards and regulations as set forth by the New York State Department of Health.
• Preparation and cooking of all meals according to the menu.
• Preparation and cooking of special meals for residents when prescribed by the physician.
• Prepare substitute meal as noted on the substitute meal log provided by the facility.
• Must follow FIFO; foods labeled, dated and put away upon delivery.
• Ensure all leftover foods are properly covered, labeled and dated.
• Discard all leftovers after 72 hours from opening.
• Responsible for cleanliness and sanitation of pantry, cooler/freezer, kitchen and dietary office.
• Washing and cleaning of all used pots, pans, and utensils.
• Ensure refrigerators/freezers have thermometers and proper temperatures.
• Keep records of food serving temperature, substitutions and dated menus.
• Periodic meetings with the facility dietary consultant.
• Attends In-Service classes related to nutrition, food preparation and cooking.
• Check daily census for accurate meal preparation.
• Inquire about updates to residents diet roster.
• Occasionally take on other responsibilities as directed by administration
