Job summary

Good Samaritan is seeking a Nursing Assistant (NA) at Miller Prairie Center in Miller, SD, to provide resident-centered care during day shifts. This part-time role supports RN staff with daily living activities, vital signs, and basic health care needs in a long-term care setting.

The NA will assist with transferring, feeding, and documenting resident interactions, while upholding infection prevention policies and PPE usage.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or GED preferred, but not required.
• Minimum age of 16. Prior clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care preferred.
• Required CNA certification with the State Board of Nursing, or state certified CNA within four months of date into the position by being enrolled in a training program or in the process of obtaining certification through Endorsement.
• Satisfactorily completes yearly department specific competency testing and maintains a record of continuing education credits for each year. A minimum of 12 hours continuing education are required annually.
• When applicable, for applicable states, certified and registered with the Unlicensed Assistive Person (UAP) Registry.
• Dependent on facility and required responsibilities, this role may classify as a Sanford Category II Driver requiring a motor vehicle report and proof of valid driver’s license.
• Also must be medically qualified to perform the essential driving functions of this position as per our Sanford Driving Policy per the leaders request.

Responsibilities

• The Nursing Assistant (NA) serves as caregiver to the resident during the scheduled work period in long term care and provides resident-centered nursing care.
• Assists with basic health care needs including daily living activities such as bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, recording vital signs, and providing psychosocial support.
• Assists with transferring, repositioning, and walking using transfer techniques and equipment; provides ROM and passive exercises.
• Completes tasks related to food preparation and dining, assisting residents with meals and snacks, and ensuring a positive dining experience.
