Job summary

YMCA of the Virginia Peninsulas is seeking a Wellness Coach who will maintain equipment, supervise the wellness area, and engage members by coaching wellness activities under supervision. The role emphasizes high-quality service, member connection, and collaboration with staff to welcome and support all members and guests.

The Wellness Coach will conduct trainings, perform daily equipment checks, handle cleaning, enter maintenance requests, and participate in staff meetings.

Qualifications

• Minimum 18 years of age.
• At least 6 months experience in the wellness field.
• Grade III: at least 6 months wellness experience.
• Grade IV: at least 2 years in fitness or up to 2 years college level exercise science.
• Must obtain YMCA Healthy Lifestyle Principles and Foundations of Strength and Conditioning within first 6 months of employment.
• Certification in CPR/First Aid/AED/O2 within 60 days of hire.
• Complete trainings: New Employee Orientation (NEO), Bloodborne Pathogens, Child Abuse Prevention (CAP), and Sexual Harassment.
• Satisfactory completion of a criminal background check and Child Protective Services check.

Responsibilities

• Support the mission, vision and goals of the YMCA.
• Promote a professional values-based culture by leading with the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
• Lead in a manner that advances our cause to strengthen the foundations of community through programs that focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
• Supervision of the wellness area.
• Engage YMCA members through coaching on wellness activities.
• Provides member training, orientations, and evaluations as scheduled.
• Provides and documents daily, weekly and monthly equipment checks.
• Performs daily cleaning in the wellness area and follow documentation procedures.
• Input maintenance requests in association maintenance software.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
• Wear staff uniform and name tag, or professional attire when appropriate.
• Act as a leader in emergency situations. Report any accidents or incidents according to Emergency Communication Action Plan.
• Follow Association standards.
• Carry out other related duties as deemed necessary by the Wellness Department and center operations to ensure an excellent member experience.
