Job summary

MBI Health Services seeks compassionate Community Support Workers (CSWs) on a contract basis in Washington, DC. You will work one-on-one with adults living with serious mental illness or co-occurring disorders in homes and communities to build life skills and independence.

You will conduct assessments, connect clients with community resources, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team while adhering to HIPAA and DC standards.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Some college coursework preferred; related fields encouraged.
  • Prior experience in mental health, social services, or educational settings.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage time, stay organized, and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic computer proficiency required.
  • Mantain independence while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Criminal background check and regulatory clearances required.

Responsibilities

  • Follow policies to ensure quality care in line with DC standards and laws.
  • Maintain confidentiality of records per HIPAA and policies.
  • Conduct interviews, collect assessments, and evaluate daily functioning.
  • Provide support in school, home, and community to promote independence.
  • Facilitate physical, social, educational, and recreational activities.
  • Support clients in developing coping and daily living skills.
  • Identify and connect clients to community services and resources.
  • Collaborate with external providers, agencies, staff, and caregivers.
  • Respond to crises; inform supervisor and implement strategies promptly.
  • Assist case management with recovery plan development.
  • Participate in treatment team meetings and trainings.
  • Provide a minimum of 25 billable SIDA hours weekly.
  • Ensure smooth transitions for new clients and positive experiences.
  • Attend trainings and mandatory meetings.

MBI Health Services is seeking compassionate and self-motivated professionals to serve as Community Support Workers (CSWs) on a contract basis with our Adult Behavioral Health Division. This independent contractor role is ideal for those who thrive working in the field, supporting adults living with serious mental illness or co-occurring disorders. As a CSW, you’ll work one-on-one with clients in their homes and communities—empowering them to build essential life skills, access critical resources, and achieve greater independence on their path to recovery.

Responsibilities
  • Follow all MBI policies and procedures to ensure quality care in compliance with DC Mental Health Standards, MBI regulations, and all applicable Federal, State, and local laws.
  • Maintain confidentiality of consumer records and documentation in accordance with HIPAA and MBI policies.
  • Conduct interviews, collect assessments, and evaluate daily functioning to help identify areas requiring continued support, treatment, or additional resources.
  • Provide support in school, home, and community settings to help consumers function more independently and safely.
  • Facilitate physical, social, educational, and recreational activities.
  • Serve as a positive role model and support clients in developing coping, interpersonal, and daily living skills.
  • Identify and connect clients to appropriate community services, including social, educational, recreational, and economic supports.
  • Maintain ongoing collaboration and communication with external providers, agencies, school staff, and caregivers.
  • Recognize and effectively respond to potential crisis and emergency situations; inform Supervisor or Manager of incidents promptly and implement appropriate strategies.
  • Assist the case management team with identifying concerns and providing feedback for the development of the consumer’s Individual Recovery Plan.
  • Participate in treatment team meetings, supervisory sessions, and program trainings.
  • Provide a minimum of 25 billable SIDA hours (See, Intervene, Document, Approve) weekly.
  • Ensure all services contribute to a smooth transition for new clients and support a positive and respectful consumer experience.
  • Attend all required trainings and mandatory meetings.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Some college coursework is preferred; ideal candidates will have education in Social Work, Psychology, Education, or a related field.
  • Prior experience working in mental health, social services, or educational settings
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage time effectively, stay organized, and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic computer proficiency required.
  • Must be able to work independently while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Successful completion of criminal background check and other regulatory clearances required.
