Job summary

Catholic Charities is seeking a Direct Support Professional to provide person-centered supports for individuals with developmental disabilities. The role emphasizes independence, safety, and community participation within a supportive team environment.

Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma or equivalent, a Direct Support Assistant Traineeship, and a valid New York driver's license. Background checks are required, with opportunities for growth and a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Valid NY State Driver License and access to a reliable vehicle.
• Prior experience serving individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities preferred; background check required.

Responsibilities

• Know the service plan and safeguards for each individual served.
• Learn the eVero database system for recordkeeping.
• Write daily and monthly notes in a timely manner.
• Assist and inspire individuals to achieve their goals.
• Provide safe transportation with a reliable car and driver’s license.
• Assist in developing, implementing and evaluating service plans based on individual preferences, needs and interests.

Qualifications

• Education: Possession of a high school or a high school equivalency required
• Credentials: Successful completion of the Direct Support Assistant Traineeship. Valid NY State Driver License and access to a reliable vehicle
• Experience: Prior experience serving individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities preferred. Relevant years of experience and education will be considered

General Description: Direct Support Professional perform a wide variety of person centered supports and services with a strong emphasis on personal choice to individuals with developmental disabilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Knows the service plan and safe guards for each individual served
• Learns the eVero data base system for recordkeeping
• Writes daily and monthly notes in a timely manner
• Assists and inspire individuals to achieve their goals
• Develops and assist cognitive and physical support to individuals with disabilities to lead a better life.
• Provides safe transportation with a reliable and clean car and driver’s license
• Assists in the development, implementation and on-going evaluation of service plan that are based on individual preferences, needs and interests.
• Teaches and reinforces the use of a variety of techniques to help individuals achieve their goals.
• Helps individuals to develop/maintain positive interpersonal relationships.
• Supports the safety of individuals in everyday situations
• Assists in selection and teaching appropriate community activities
• Supports activity participation in the community
• Communicates with the individuals circle of people
• Attends all required OPWDD and agency trainings
• Attends staff meetings
• Completes other duties as assigned.
