Catholic Charities of Tompkins/Tioga is hiring a Direct Support Professional to provide person-centered supports to individuals with developmental disabilities. The role emphasizes helping clients pursue personal goals and participate in community activities.

The position offers full-time hours, a varied schedule, and a competitive benefits package. Applicants must be able to pass background checks and have a NY driver license with access to a vehicle.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Direct Support Assistant Traineeship completed.
• Valid NY State Driver License and access to a reliable vehicle.
• Experience serving individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities preferred.
• Background check required by CCDOR.

Responsibilities

• Know the service plan and safeguards for each individual served.
• Back up cook as needed.
• Learn the eVero data base system for recordkeeping.
• Write daily and monthly notes in a timely manner.
• Assist and inspire individuals to achieve their goals.
• Provide safe transportation with a reliable and clean car and driver’s license.
• Participate in development and evaluation of service plans based on individual preferences, needs and interests.
• Attend required trainings and staff meetings.
• Complete other duties as assigned.

General Description

Direct Support Professional perform a wide variety of person centered supports and services with a strong emphasis on personal choice to individuals with developmental disabilities. Back up cook as needed possible driving a food truck as needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Assists and inspire individuals to achieve their goals
• Develops and assist cognitive and physical support to individuals with disabilities to lead a better life.
• Provides safe transportation with a reliable and clean car and driver’s license
• Assists in the development, implementation and on-going evaluation of service plan that are based on individual preferences, needs and interests.
• Teaches and reinforces the use of a variety of techniques to help individuals achieve their goals.
• Helps individuals to develop/maintain positive interpersonal relationships.
• Supports the safety of individuals in everyday situations
• Assists in selection and teaching appropriate community activities
• Supports activity participation in the community
• Communicates with the individuals circle of people
• Attends all required OPWDD and agency trainings
• Attends staff meetings
• Completes other duties as assigned.
