Job summary

Building One Community (B1C) seeks a part-time Community Support Coordinator in Stamford, CT to expand the Community Basket program and oversee food distribution, donations, and tax-season support. The role requires on-site work, occasional evenings and weekends, and reporting to the Family Services Manager.

Fluency in Spanish and English and experience in social services are essential. This position also involves case management, connecting participants to B1C programs and community resources,

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a social services field preferred.
  • Strong multicultural awareness and trauma-informed interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and expand the Community Basket program, including managing food distribution schedules and participant access.
  • Organize and manage food and other in-kind donations, including intake, inventory, and distribution to program beneficiaries.
  • Support the Tax Aid Preparation Program during tax season, including appointment setting, reporting, and interaction with partner organizations.
  • Meet with program beneficiaries and assess needs during the intake process; develop a plan to address food insecurity and related needs.
  • Provide general case management assistance to program beneficiaries with domestic violence, medical care, emergency support, mental health services, housing assistance, and other critical needs.
  • Connect program beneficiaries to both internal and external services to address critical needs and ensure access to the appropriate resources and support.
  • Establish and maintain up-to-date case files in a timely manner; enter and manage data in the Salesforce database; generate reports, track trends, and analyze program outcomes to enhance and improve service delivery.
  • Work with Family Services and Community Engagement teams and supervise volunteers to support goals.

COMMUNITY SUPPORT COORDINATOR

Food Security

Part-Time 25 Hours per Week

About Us:

Building One Community (B1C) is a Stamford, Connecticut-based nonprofit supporting the successful integration of immigrants and their families. At B1C, immigrants acquire the tools they need to thrive. We provide free services that educate, employ, empower and engage immigrants and the broader community. Our programs include English Language classes, Family and Individual Support Services, Academic Enrichment Programs, Immigration Legal Services, and Workforce Development programs.

Position:

The Community Support Coordinator will coordinate food assistance programs for immigrant individuals and families, with a primary focus on expanding the Community Basket program, managing food distribution and donations, and supporting the Tax Aid Preparation Program during tax season. This role also provides general case management and family support as needed, helping participants access the broader range of B1C programs and community resources. This part-time, 25-hour-per-week position requires on-site attendance and reports to the Family Services Manager. It involves occasional evening and weekend assignments, including periodic Saturday hours to oversee the food pantry and support tax preparation during tax season.

Primary Duties:
  • Coordinate and expand the Community Basket program, including managing food distribution schedules and participant access.
  • Organize and manage food and other in-kind donations, including intake, inventory, and distribution to program beneficiaries.
  • Support the Tax Aid Preparation Program during tax season, including appointment setting, reporting, and interaction with partner organizations.
  • Meet with program beneficiaries and assess needs during the intake process; develop a plan to address food insecurity and related needs.
  • Provide general case management assistance to program beneficiaries with domestic violence, medical care, emergency support, mental health services, housing assistance, and other critical needs.
  • Connect program beneficiaries to both internal and external services to address critical needs and ensure access to the appropriate resources and support.

  • Work hand in hand with fellow Family Services team members on events, donation distributions, and other shared initiatives, while also collaborating with the Community Engagement team to establish and expand connections with food banks, donors, and other community partners supporting food security efforts.
  • Supervise and engage volunteers supporting the Community Basket, food distribution, and tax preparation, ensuring they are effectively contributing to program goals and assisting beneficiaries with their needs.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Fluency in Spanish and English with demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience providing social services or case management to immigrant or underserved populations.
  • Bachelor's degree in a social services field preferred.
  • Strong multicultural awareness, trauma-informed interpersonal skills, and compassion in working with diverse populations.
  • Strong ability to prioritize and complete tasks efficiently, ensuring deadlines are met and projects are delivered on time.
  • Flexibility to travel to satellite offices and other off-site locations as needed.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office and Salesforce or another database system.
  • Belief in the organization's mission and goals, with strong commitment to the empowerment of low-income immigrant populations.
