Job summary

The City of Ormond Beach is seeking a law enforcement officer to protect life and property, enforce laws, and provide police services to the community. Duties include patrol, investigations, traffic safety, and community outreach.

The officer may work in various areas and must act with independence under supervision. Required are a high school diploma or GED and Florida law enforcement certification, plus continued training and a valid Florida driver's license.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED, plus State of Florida Law Enforcement Certification.
• Additional specialized training when assigned to a specific service area.
• Valid Florida Driver's License and ability to meet statutory qualifications.
• Must meet minimum qualifications as stipulated in F.S. 943.13.

Responsibilities

• Conduct preventive patrol in designated areas and establish open communications with residents and business operators.
• Respond to police service calls and take action on incidents requiring police attention.
• Provide information and assistance to the public and refer to other agencies when applicable.
• Maintain peace and safety at group functions and during community events.
• Investigate criminal and non-criminal incidents, including follow-up investigations and surveillance.
• Enforce laws, issue citations, and prepare reports and depositions for court proceedings.
• Testify in civil and criminal court and provide requested depositions.
• Attend community meetings and provide security, escort services, and crime prevention education.
