Job summary

North Slope Borough Police Department seeks officers to patrol assigned areas, enforce laws, and respond to emergencies while safeguarding communities in Alaska.

Officers will investigate incidents, process suspects, testify in court, and participate in ongoing training. Strong communication, decision-making and teamwork are essential to maintaining public safety and building community trust.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or GED or equivalent.
• Certified as a Police Officer by the Alaska Police Standards Council within one year of appointment.
• Valid Alaska driver’s license or ability to obtain Alaska Drivers license per insurance criteria within 30 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Patrols and provides security for assigned areas, monitoring for suspicious activity and assisting co-workers.
• Enforce local, state and Federal laws and Borough Municipal Code.
• Responds to emergency and non-emergency calls for service; interrogates victims, witnesses and suspects; collects evidence and completes reports.
• Arrests law violators; transports and processes prisoners; testifies in court; serves warrants and protection orders.
• Represent the Borough Police at court hearings and provide requested reports.
• Investigates crimes and accidents; secures scenes; conducts follow-up as needed.
• Attends training and educational programs; participates in community education and outreach.
• Maintains patrol vehicles and equipment; coordinates with other agencies as needed.
• Supports Community Oriented Policing; participates in public relations and outreach activities.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.
