Job summary

The North Slope Borough Fire Department seeks a qualified EMS firefighter to respond to emergencies, perform firefighting and rescue duties, and assist with shift supervision and training. The position requires EMT I, Firefighter I, HazMat Ops, and supervisory experience, with opportunities to advance to higher certifications.

Qualifications

• HS/GED or equivalent with work experience.
• EMT I certification required.
• Firefighter I and HazMat Ops certifications.
• Ability to obtain BLS Instructor within one year.
• Firefighter II certification preferred.
• Potential to obtain Fire Officer I/Instructor I.
• Three years arctic firefighting experience.
• One year supervisory experience.
• Valid AK driver license.

Responsibilities

• Respond to emergencies and perform firefighting, rescue, and EMS duties.
• Maintain inventory and readiness of equipment and supplies.
• Assist Training Division to ensure courses follow lesson plans.
• Maintain training skills through applicable opportunities.
• Operate, inspect, and maintain emergency equipment and vehicles.
• Coordinate breathing air systems and oxygen cylinders.
• Oversee EMS operations with Captains and QA patient care reports.
• Perform routine ambulance apparatus checks and documentation.
• HIPAA compliance oversight and annual staff training.
