Job summary

City of Garland is seeking qualified applicants for police officer through the Garland Police Department examination process to help enforce laws, respond to service calls, and promote public safety in Garland, Texas.

Candidates must meet Texas TCOLE requirements, be a US citizen, and have a High School Diploma or GED (or higher) with additional options such as an Associate degree, 60 credit hours, or military service.

Qualifications

• Must be able to communicate in English and pass Garland Police Department hiring steps.
• Citizen of the United States at time of application.
• Must meet TCOLE minimum requirements and age criteria.

Responsibilities

• Pro-active enforcement of criminal and traffic laws, including issuing citations.
• Respond to calls for service from citizens.
• Maintain high-visibility patrols.
• Educate the public and citizen contacts.
• Prepare and complete all necessary reports and supplements.
• Attend state mandated and supplemental training each year.
• Testify in court regarding collection of evidence.
• Preserve and enhance the quality of life for Garland residents.
