Job summary

Port Orange, City of (FL) is seeking a Community Service Officer (CSO) to support police operations by handling non-law enforcement tasks. The CSO will assist sworn officers, manage traffic-related duties, enforce parking rules, and help with supply management and reports.

Applicants should have a high school diploma or GED and at least two years of related public-contact experience in law enforcement or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Florida driver’s license required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Two years’ related experience in a public-contact law enforcement environment, or equivalent.
• Ability to read and interpret work-related documents.

Responsibilities

• Assists officers at crime scenes.
• Directs traffic and assists with traffic control, accident scenes, and crowd control.
• Enforces parking offenses and issues citations when appropriate.
• Assists the department quartermaster with purchases and stock of supplies.
• Conducts vacation house watches.
• Resolves animal control issues and enforces related laws.
• Prepares routine reports and maintains records.
• Performs duties at the police complaint desk.
• Performs duties during emergencies as part of the Emergency Management Team.
