Job summary

City of Carlsbad seeks a Recreation Specialist to manage citywide recreation programs, oversee facilities, and assist in supervision across sites. The role emphasizes independent work, strong customer service, and attention to detail.

The schedule includes Tue–Fri 9:00–18:00 and Sat 8:00–17:00 with potential weekend/evening hours. The ideal candidate will independently administer transportation services for older adults at the Senior Center and support operations at the Pine Avenue Community

Qualifications

Knowledge of computer applications and programs.
Understanding of public recreation programs and City policies.
First aid methods and safety precautions for recreational programs.
Basic supervisory practices and skills.

Responsibilities

Coordinate a recreation program area, plan and administer the program and supervise hourly staff.
Provide skilled recreation leadership or instruction at facilities.
Maintain inventory control and records of activities and progress.
Develop specialized recreation programs, including classes, events, excursions and reservations.
Respond to citizen complaints and requests for information.
Assist Recreation Supervisors with program events and activities.
Coordinate activities with other city departments and outside agencies.
Supervise and train hourly staff and assist regular staff as needed.
Make public presentations and develop reports on assigned programs.
Monitor class activities and evaluate program effectiveness.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
